About

The teams at Acacia Memorial Park and Funeral Home believe that there is no greater responsibility—or honor—than sharing the story of your loved one. The cemetery and funeral home teams create opportunities for people to gather, remember and celebrate life. The compassionate funeral professionals handle funeral and cremation arrangements for families in and around Seattle. The cemetery is a beautiful final resting place for Puget Sound families from all walks of life.

Customizable funeral home spaces

Acacia Funeral Home has 3 spaces for funeral services. The largest chapel seats 120 people in rows of chairs. The room can be reconfigured with tables and chairs for less formal memorial services or even a catered event.

The more intimate Fireside Room seats 20 to 25 people in a living space with couches, chairs and an inviting fireplace. With pictures of flowers on the walls, the Garden Room holds about 50 people. Typically set up with tables, the room will also accommodate rows of chairs.

All of our non-denominational chapels have screens for showing multimedia tributes—which we can create for you—and double as visitation rooms.

Personalized funeral services

Reception room at Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral HomeAcacia Funeral Home serves people of all cultures and religions, and we focus on personalized memorial services. We believe unique lives deserve unique celebrations. Our experienced staff knows just how to create your vision or bring your loved one's final wishes to reality. We offer everything from a traditional funeral to a modern celebration of life.

Personal touches can be small—photo displays and speeches by friends are common—or more elaborate. We could hang a cross behind the casket, have a kayak at the front door, give out cotton candy at the end of the service or wear the jerseys of a person's favorite sports team. And if it's a grand celebration of life that you're looking for—a modern gathering with themed decor, live music, favorite food and drinks, and a send-off that reflects the personality and passions of yourself or your loved one—that's our specialty.

These are just a few ideas. Let's imagine something special together.

Cremation services in Seattle

We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our transparent pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none. And now we offer both traditional flame cremation and water cremation.

More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:

  • a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
  • a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
  • a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.

For those who wish for a more momentous memorial, Neptune Memorial Reef® is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.

There are many cremation providers—and they're not all equal. Here's what you can expect when you choose us for your loved one's cremation:

  • Custody of care guaranteed. Our custody-of-care program helps safeguard the identification of your loved one from the time we bring them into our care until the time we return them to your family. We check, cross-check and check again, every step of the way.
  • Exclusive custody of your loved one. We use only crematories owned and operated by Dignity Memorial® providers or trusted partners. Once your loved one is in our custody or that of a trusted partner, they’re in our care until they’re returned to your family.
  • Licensed, certified, conscientious staff. All Dignity Memorial crematory operators are licensed and certified by Cremation Association of North America, or CANA. Only one person at a time is cremated, and the cremation chamber is thoroughly cleaned before the next person is cremated.

Now offering human composting

A new choice for nature lovers, conservationists and those who want to protect the planet for future generations, human composting is an alternative to burial and cremation. Inside a vessel created especially for this purpose, organic elements, such as wood chips, mulch and wildflowers, gently transform a body into nutrient-rich soil. Your family may choose to use this soil to plant trees or flowers, or you can place it in a location meaningful to you. The remaining soil is sent to conservation land on the Olympic Peninsula to aid projects such as reforestation, improving soil health and restoring challenged ecosystems.

History

In 1926, the Greater Seattle Masonic Lodge founded Acacia Memorial Park. The acacia tree symbolizes the promise of rebirth in Masonic rites. They sold the cemetery to Fred Burnaby and his family in 1927. The original gardens in the memorial park were designed to form a Celtic cross when looked at from above. Construction on Acacia's original mausoleum began in 1928, and the 1st phase was completed in 1931.

The cemetery is expanded

Mausoleum at Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral HomeCemetery development continued through 1972, and today the original mausoleum covers 3.5 acres. It is illuminated almost entirely by natural light. In addition to leaded glass skylights, the mausoleum holds 29 massive works of stained glass. Construction of the newer Lakeview Mausoleum began in 1977; the 1st phase was completed in 1979. The sun-dappled, 2-story center atrium holds a Japanese garden with a waterfall and reflecting pool.

Acacia Funeral Home is built

Opened adjacent to the cemetery in 1964, Acacia Funeral Home was run by Adams and Morrison, until it was became a sister location to the cemetery in 1999. In 2000, the funeral home was renovated. Local artists were hired to design custom glass doors and windows. Updates in 2007 included the installation of an audiovisual suite. Acacia Memorial Park and Funeral Home are now members of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.

Acacia Memorial Park cemetery

Cemetery grounds at Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral HomeAcacia Memorial Park is a sprawling 60 acres (including 10 that are undeveloped), making it one of the few remaining large green spaces around Seattle). The cemetery is known for its large mausoleums and spectacular trees, from sequoias to spruce. Century-old redwoods cover the property. The pond in our cremation garden brings a flock of ducklings to the grounds every year.

Burial options

The cemetery offers a variety of interment options: in-ground burial, community and private mausoleums, private estates, a cremation garden (with an ossuary, niches and benches) and built-to-suit properties. Memorial choices include both flat and upright monuments. Also, the cemetery can accommodate a committal service in a mausoleum corridor or crypt side.

Veterans cemetery

The cemetery has a burial garden set aside just for members of the U.S. military. We honor the servicemen and servicewomen buried here every year on Memorial Day.

Community involvement

Acacia Memorial Park and Funeral Home are involved in many Seattle community organizations, including the Church Council of Greater Seattle, Samaritan Center of Puget Sound, Mary’s Place and Heartwork. At the funeral home and on the cemetery grounds, we host events associated with Seattle-area nonprofits, as well as our own Memorial Day service. Each holiday season, in addition to our annual gathering of remembrance on the 1st Sunday of December, our funeral home and cemetery teams work with Holiday Stockings for Homeless Children, collecting items for homeless children throughout the country.
